Subscriptions & Billing

Subscription Billing Timing Explained

Understanding when you'll be charged can clear up a lot of confusion—especially if you see a pending transaction on your card before you've been approved. This guide explains exactly how billing timing works, from your first order through refills.

The Two-Phase Billing Process

Billing happens in two stages:

  1. Authorization (Hold): A temporary pending charge is placed on your card when you check out.

  2. Capture (Final Charge): Payment is finalized only if and when a provider approves your treatment.

You are never charged without approval.

What Happens at Checkout

When you place an order, a pending authorization is placed on your payment method. This is not a charge—it's a hold that temporarily reserves the funds.

Your bank or credit card may show this as:

  • "Pending"

  • "Authorization"

  • "Temporary hold"

This step allows us to move quickly once your medical review is complete, without requiring you to re-enter payment information.

When You're Actually Charged

Your payment is only captured (converted from a hold to a real charge) after a licensed provider reviews your information and approves your treatment.

At that point:

  • The authorization becomes a settled charge

  • You'll see it appear as a completed transaction on your statement

  • Your prescription is sent to the pharmacy for processing

If You're Not Approved

If a provider determines treatment isn't appropriate for you:

  • The pending authorization is automatically released

  • You are not charged

  • The hold typically falls off your statement within3–10 business days, depending on your bank

No action is required from you—the hold removes itself naturally.

Refill Billing Timing

For refills (reorders), the timing is similar:

  1. Place your reorder: A new pendingauthorization is placed when you submit your refill request.

  2. Provider review: If required, a provider reviews your refill request.

  3. Approval and capture: Once approved, the payment is captured and your refill is processed.

If your refill is not approved, the authorization releases and no charge occurs.

Timing Can Vary

The time between placing your order and being charged depends on how long provider review takes. This can vary based on:

  • Volume of requests

  • Completeness of your medical questionnaire

  • Whether additional documentation is needed

Most reviews are completed within 1–3 business days, but some may take longer. You are only charged after approval, not when you place the order.

Hold vs. Completed Charge on Your Statement

Here's how to tell the difference:

Status

What ItMeans

Pending / Authorization

A hold has been placed but not captured. You have not been charged yet. Funding is reserved but not withdrawn.

Completed / Settled

Your provider approved treatment, and payment was captured. This is a real charge.

If you see a pending hold and are concerned, wait for provider review to complete. If you're not approved, the hold will disappear automatically.

Flat Pricing: No Surprise Increases

Verge uses transparent, flat pricing. This means:

  • Your price is fixed—there are no hidden fees

  • Your cost doesn't increase if your dose changes

  • No surprises or unexpected adjustments to your bill

What you agree to pay at checkout is what you pay, regardless of dose adjustments made by your provider.

Any pending hold will automatically expire and disappear from your account if approval is not granted. You do not need to cancel the hold yourself—this happens automatically through your bank or card issuer.

Common Questions

I see a charge but haven't been approved yet. WasI charged?

If the transaction shows as "pending," "authorization," or "temporary," that's ahold—not a charge. You haven't been billed yet. The actual charge only happens after provider approval.

If your approval is still in progress, wait for the provider review to complete. If you're not approved, the hold will release automatically.

Whydid I see a pending hold if I wasn't charged?

The hold exists to reserve funds while we complete your medical review. If yourprovider determines treatment isn't appropriate for you, the hold is automatically released and no charge occurs.

This is standard practice for telehealth services and ensures payment can be processed quickly once approval is granted.

How long does a pending authorization last?

Pending authorizations typically expire within 3–10 business days if not captured, depending on your bank or card issuer. If you were not approved, the hold will fall off naturally—noaction is needed from you.

Can I cancel the pending hold?

No action is needed. If you're not approved, the hold releases automatically. If youchange your mind before approval, contact support, but note that the hold maystill need to expire naturally through your bank.

Summary

  • At checkout: A pending hold is placed—not a charge.

  • After approval: Payment is captured and becomes a real charge.

  • If not approved: The hold releases automatically; you are not charged.

  • Refills: Follow the same process—hold at reorder, capture after approval.

  • Flat pricing: Your price doesn't change when your dose changes.

Billing is designed to be transparent and fair: you only pay if you're approved, and you always know the cost upfront.
